Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival and Welcome
Upon arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed and transferred towards Panama, a scenic journey of approximately 7–8 hours through changing landscapes of Sri Lanka. Along the way, there will be comfortable stops for refreshments and opportunities for landscape photography, capturing rural life and tropical scenery. On arrival in Panama, you will check in to a carefully selected eco-lodge or boutique stay located close to Kumana National Park. The evening is kept relaxed, allowing you to explore the surroundings and enjoy casual birdwatching around the property. Dinner will be served at the lodge, followed by an overnight stay.
Day 2: First Full-Day Safari
The day begins early with a sunrise jeep safari into Kumana National Park, where the soft morning light creates ideal conditions for wildlife photography. This session focuses on capturing leopards, elephants, crocodiles, and a wide variety of endemic bird species in their natural habitat. A packed breakfast is enjoyed inside the park to maximize field time. After a short midday rest in a designated safe zone, the afternoon safari continues, offering golden hour lighting perfect for dramatic wildlife shots. By evening, you return to your accommodation for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Into the Wild
After an early departure, the day is dedicated to exploring the rich birdlife of Kumana National Park, one of Asia’s most important birding destinations. You will focus on migratory and endemic species including pelicans, painted storks, eagles, and kingfishers. A visit to the famous Kumana Villu wetland offers exceptional opportunities to photograph nesting colonies and wetland ecosystems. A picnic lunch is arranged inside the park, allowing you to remain immersed in the field. The afternoon continues with bird photography and landscape compositions, followed by return to the lodge. In the evening, an optional photo review and discussion session can be arranged before dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Final Safari Day
The fourth day begins again at sunrise with a safari focused on big game and behavioral photography inside Kumana National Park. This is your opportunity to track leopards, observe elephant movements, and capture rare wildlife interactions. The guide will also assist you in experimenting with creative photography techniques such as motion shots, low-angle compositions, and wide landscape wildlife framing. After a relaxed midday break, the afternoon safari continues at a slower pace, focusing on artistic and storytelling shots in changing light conditions. You return to the lodge in the evening for a farewell dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5: Departure
After breakfast, you will check out from the lodge and begin your return journey to Bandaranaike International Airport. The drive marks the end of your immersive wildlife photography experience, leaving you with a portfolio of powerful images and unforgettable memories of Sri Lanka’s eastern wilderness.
